Welcome to the Website of Jenann Ismael

I am the William H. Miller III Professor of Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University.  Previously I was Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University and affiliate of the Zuckerman Institute.  I have also taught at Stanford University (1996-98) and the University of Arizona (1998-2018). Throughout this website you can access my published papers, new and forthcoming papers, books and learn about my stray papers and work in progress. Jenann Ismael

I received my M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton in 1997. My areas of specialization are philosophy of physics, metaphysics, philosophy of science and the philosophy of mind. Bas Van Fraassen was my primary advisor. David Albert and Paul Benacerraf were on my committee.

I have held fellowships including a Mellon Fellowship at Stanford, an NEH fellowship at the National Humanities Center, a QEII fellowship at the Centre for Time in Sydney, a fellowship Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and fellowships from the Templeton Foundation, and FQXi.
